Texas Tech Coasts to Costly Win Against Kansas Jayhawks [VIDEO]
It took about one and a half quarters before the Texas Tech (3-1, 1-0) offense kicked into gear in the Red Raiders 55-19 win over the Kansas Jayhawks (1-3, 0-1). Texas Tech led Kansas 14-0 after the first quarter, and extended the lead to 28-9 at halftime.
Texas Tech starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for four touchdowns in the win; all of them came in the first half. However, the biggest story with Mahomes is the question of his health. He left the game in the third quarter with a possible right shoulder injury after being tackled on a 30-yard scramble.
Mahomes was examined briefly on the sideline and attempted to throw a pass under the observation of the trainers, but was unable to do so. At that point, he was taken to the locker room and didn't play in the rest of the game.
During the postgame press conference, Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury said he had no definitive news on Mahomes' condition. Mahomes is expected to be examined further by Texas Tech medical staff on Friday.
Mahomes' backup, Nic Shimonek, kept the offense moving in the second half. He led the Red Raiders on four scoring drives, going 15/21 passing for 271 yards and four touchdowns.
