Texas Tech defeats Eastern Illinois 85-71 in WNIT Opener

Shauntal Nobles scored 18 points and led four Lady Raiders in double figures as Texas Tech (20-13) rolled to a 85-71 victory over Eastern Illinois (22-9) the First Round of the WNIT in Lubbock. Ta'Kenya Nixon led Eastern Illinois with 25 points.

Texas Tech led Eastern Illinois only 40-36 at the half and were tied in the rebounding margin at 15 a piece. Nobles scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half to lead the Texas Tech surge from trailing 36-35 with a minute left in the first half to a lead they would not relinquish. Casey Morris added in 17 points along with Chynna Brown chipping in 14 points.

Texas Tech will face Tulane at a time and place to be determined in the Second Round. Tulane defeated Mississippi Valley 68-61 Thursday night.
