The Texas Tech Red Raider football team landed a big time recruit Thursday with the signing of five-star defensive tackle Delvon Simmons from McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Simmons was highly recruited across the country but signed his letter of intent this week with Texas Tech to become a Red Raider in the fall of 2011.

Simmons, said to be the third highest ranked DT from Scout.com, was originally set to play football at North Carolina under Butch Davis. Simmons was granted release from his letter of intent with the Tar Heels.

Simmons will be playing this upcoming fall for Texas Tech with his high school teammate Branden Jackson. Jackson, a four-star linebacker, signed his letter of intent with Tech earlier this year.

This is also one of the highest recruit signings at DT for Texas Tech in program history. He is the highest rated recruit this season to sign with Tommy Tuberville and the Red Raider football team.
