"I have enjoyed very much my tenure here at Tech and I am confident the administration here will find a coach that will continue the winning tradition my staff and I have been able to establish," Hays said. "I am very thankful to have coached all the great student-athletes that have been in our program the last five years as well as my awesome staff. I wish the very best to all the coaches in the department and I am thankful to have been a part of it all."

Hays has been at the helm of the softball program for five season at Texas Tech where he accumulated a record of 186-96.  The team on the year is currently 35-19 with a 8-10 conference play as they wait to see what happens with the regional selections which is set for Sunday on ESPN 2.  Their has not been an release of any early candidates of who could replace Coach Hays.
