On Friday, hours after a racist conversation between Texas Tech fraternity members leaked online, the school's Interfraternity Council announced they had a new president.

Executive Vice President of the Interfraternity Council Ethan Louis Smith released a statement Friday announcing that the group appointed a new president in the aftermath of a now-viral leaked chat that included the former president.

That former president, identified as Kyle Mitchell in a news report, appeared with the user name Cocaine Cowboy in the chat that leaked online Thursday night.

In the chat, Mitchell wrote: "...build a wall, and the US govt. can sell permits for legal hunting on the border and we can make a sport of this."

In addition to promoting the idea of killing illegal immigrants for sport, Mitchell approved of a fellow frat member claiming he knows ranchers on the U.S.-Mexico border who "kill illegals and bury them under cattle graves along the border."

"As they should," Mitchell wrote in response.

When another person suggested that the U.S. should "only deport unathletic illegals" because the Texas Tech soccer team "needs some help," Mitchell wrote "we need some cooks too, and a few Gardner's, but the rest of them f--k them."

He also suggested that the frat's next brotherhood trip be a "border shooting range."

Twitter account seemingly belonging to Mitchell posted a statement Friday afternoon claiming he resigned his position "because my comments do not reflect the values of the Texas Tech fraternities."

Texas Tech University called the messages "abhorrent" in a statement posted late Thursday night on Twitter and said school officials would be "investigating the matter."

As of the publication of this story, nobody involved in the incident is known to have been expelled.
