Voting for the Big 12 Athlete of the Year candidates is now open.

Texas Tech released its nominations Friday for the prestigious honor, nominating Gonzalo Escobar and Gabby Dominguez.

Escobar, a senior from Manta, Ecuador, was outstanding for the Red Raider tennis team.

His resume:

♦  Winningest singles player in program history (99 singles wins)
♦  Winningest doubles player in program history (82 wins)
♦  First player in school history to advance to NCAA Sweet 16 in singles. ♦  First player in school history to advance as part of a doubles team to the NCAA Finals (lost to Ohio State)
♦  ITA Singles and Doubles All-American

Dominguez, a junior from Chilton, Texas,  was one of the top golfers for the Lady Raiders this season.

Her resume:

♦  Honorable Mention All-American by the NGCA and GolfWeek. First Tech women's golfer since 1996 to earn these honors.
♦  Tied for 8th at the NCAA Championships with teammate Kim Kaufman - highest finish in program history.
♦  Finished with a 72.8 stroke average, nearly two strokes lower than her previous school record.
♦  All-Big 12 selection, Tech's first since 2000.
♦  Qualified for the Women's U.S. Open, July 5-8 and also played in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links.
