Today’s Texas Tech Football practice report is filed by 1340 The Fan’s Rob Brennan

Lubbock, TX (1340TheFan.com) — The Red Raider football saw another 10am workout on Tuesday morning as they get ready for the 2012 season.

“Not as good as a practice it was as yesterday,” said Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville.  “Wasn’t quite as crisp, we put some new things in and some of the news guys heads were spinning.”

Tuberville says today’s practice and tomorrow will focus a lot on the running game and on the defensive front seven package.  Overall, Tuberville is happy with the teams health, with an exception at offensive line, as Tech hasn’t sustained any major injuries so far.

“Knock on wood, we haven’t had the hamstrings,” said Tuberville.  “Last year we had a string of hamstrings. Summer conditioning really paid off for us. Leadership of the older guys getting the younger guys ready to go for two-a-days.”

Tuberville mentioned plenty of position battles are going on throughout camp.  One in particular is at defensive end with redshirt freshman Branden Jackson and sophomore Jackson Richards.  Tuberville says he’d like to have most of his defensive ends get used to just one side of the line during camp instead of having them switch back and forth from the right and left side.

The biggest issue on defense in Tuberville’s eyes, seems to be at cornerback.  Tuberville was not happy at all with the cornerback play in Saturday’s scrimmage and will pay particular attention how they fair in Wednesday morning’s scrimmage.  Tuberville is waiting for a leader in that group to step up.  We asked senior cornerback Eugene Neboh if he is ready to be one of the leaders Tuberville is waiting for, Neboh told us he doesn’t necessarily want to try to be a leader, but more like a “guide” to the other cornerbacks.

Texas Tech will have two practices Wednesday.  The first practice will be a short workout followed by a scrimmage at 10am in Jones AT&T Stadium that will be open to just the media.  The second practice will be around 3:30pm and is expected to be closed to the media.
