A sixth-inning grand slam by Jamodrick McGruder put away the Kansas Jayhawks (20-23, 9-11 Big 12) 9-4 Saturday night as Texas Tech (27-19, 8-12 Big 12) won its first Big 12 series in over a month since taking 2 out of 3 at home against Nebraska.

The nine runs for Texas Tech eclipsed their previous four conference games combined as they scored five runs total at Kansas State last weekend and three in the Friday night victory over the Jayhawks. Trey Masek (3-3) tied a career-high five strikeouts pitching in 5.2 innings allowing four runs on eight hits with one walk for Texas Tech on the mound earning the victory.

The Red Raiders entered the series reeling with their offense fading away on the weekend conference matchups en route to losing four consecutive series losses. Tech entered the series against Kansas in 9th place and have clawed back to a 6th place tie with Kansas State.

Texas Tech goes for the sweep this afternoon at 1 p.m. from Dan Law Field in Lubbock. Go to
