Texas Tech Soccer Drops Kansas 2-0, Advances to Big 12 Semifinals
The Texas Tech Red Raider soccer team used a two-goal second half Wednesday to beat the Kansas Jayhawks 2-0 in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship and punch their ticket into the semifinals.
Freshman, and Big 12 Rookie of the Year, Janine Beckie found the back of the net first before senior Dawn Ward provided some breathing room late in the second half.
It’s the first time in Tech program history that it has advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 tournament.
“The most inspiring thing about this team is that we had a great halftime, made some adjustments and came back and just played lights-out in the second half,” head coach Tom Stone said. “In the first 15 minutes we came back and made the game ours.”
Texas Tech will face Baylor Friday at 8 p.m. after the Bears edged Oklahoma State to advance.
With the win, the Red Raiders improved to 15-4-1 on the year and extended their current unbeaten streak to six matches. Tech has outscored opponents 12-2 during the winning stretch while also earning their ninth shutout of the season.
