Texas Tech Softball Falls to Arizona in NCAA Tucson Regional Championship

The Lady Raiders fell to University Arizona in the Tucson Regional Championship 10-2.

The Lady Raiders gave up 10 hits and 10 runs in this championship game as they went through a slew of pitchers to try and slow down the Lady Wildcats hot bats.

In the bottom of the 1st Tech had an early opportunity to build a lead but failed to capitalize. The Lady Raiders had 2 players in scoring position, but short stop Raven Richardson hit a fly out to end the ending.

Kelsey Dennis started it off on the mound for the Lady Raiders but only lasted till the second giving up 2 runs and 2 hits.

After a scoreless first designated Lini Koria of the Lady Wildcats broke the tie with a solo homer to give Arizona the lead that they would hold on to for the entire game.

Kelsey Dennis started it off on the mound for the Lady Raiders but only lasted till the second giving up 2 runs and 2 hits. Dennis was pulled after she put another two Lady Wildcats on base after giving up the solo shot. She was replaced with Freshman Brittany Talley who would walk in a run

Tech would finally get on the board in the 4th inning on a Richardson solo home run but the game was already getting out of hand as Arizona lead 6-1.

After a scoreless 5th the Lady Wildcats ended all hopes of a Lady Raider comeback in the 6th. Arizona posted 4 runs in the 6th, 2 of which came on a Baillie Kirker home run.

Tech failed to extend the game in the bottom of the 6th, only scoring 1 run. The Lady Raiders ended their season being run ruled by Arizona.

Head Coach Shannon Hays had this to say about his team:

“I couldn’t be prouder of the effort from our group not only today but the entire season. I thought we battled with one of the best teams in the country, and although the score may not indicate it, we were in the game throughout. This is a great group of kids, and we are excited to have them at Texas Tech.”

If Tech had won this game they still would have needed to win a game 2 which would have immediately followed.

Tech  set a team record with 10 walks in this game.
