The 22nd-ranked Texas Tech softball team learned their post-season fate Sunday night, as the Red Raiders were named to the Washington Regional during the NCAA Selection Show.

The Red Raiders will open the three-day regional against Maryland Friday at 5:30. No. 16 national seed Washington and Harvard will play in the other first-round game in the double elimination format.

The post-season selection is the fifth all-time in school history for the Red Raiders and third-straight under head coach Shanon Hays.

"It's a thrill to get to go to a place with such tradition and history like Washington has," Hays said. "This is probably the most beautiful place to play in the country. I'm excited that our Washington girls will get a chance to play in front of their family and friends."

Texas Tech finished the regular season 40-15 overall and 13-10 in Big 12 play. It was the programs first winning conference record since 2001 and the second straight 40-win season.
