The Texas Tech Red Raider softball team claimed a clean sweep of the ASU Kajikawa Classic on Sunday thanks to their 10-9 come from behind victory over Appalachian State. The Red Raiders got a 2 run blast from Emily Bledsoe in the 7th inning to seal the victory.

Tech claimed a total of five wins on the weekend including two which were wins over ranked opponents. Tech claimed a season opening win on Thursday 7-5 over 16th ranked BYU in 9 innings. The Red Raiders turned a triple play in the 8th inning to get out of a jam, and then scored two runs in the 9th for the win.

Texas Tech made easy work of Bradley on Friday with a 13-2 victory. Friday’s game against Bradley only lasted five innings thanks to the run rule.

The Red Raiders also took care of 12th ranked California and Indiana in a double header on Saturday. The Red Raiders claimed a 5-4 victory over the 12th ranked Golden bears. They also made easy work of Indiana with a 4-1 win over the Hoosiers.

The 5-0 starts for the Lady Raiders, over the weekend, is the best start to a season for the softball team in program history. Last year the Red Raiders started off 4-1 in the season opening appearance in the ASU Kajikawa Classic. This also marked the 4th trip to the ASU tournament in the last five years.

The Tech softball team will try to build off of their season opening success as they return to action on Friday in the Hub City. The Red Raiders will play host to the Texas Tech Invitational starting Friday February 18th from Rocky Johnson Field. The weekend tournament will feature Utah Valley and Bryant University.
