Tuesday afternoon, Republican Presidential candidate Ben Carson temporarily suspended his campaign after a volunteer was critically injured in an accident in Iowa.

25 year-old Braden Joplin was one of four people riding in a van that hit a patch of ice and flipped onto its side.  The van was then struck by an oncoming vehicle. The Des Moines Register reported Joplin was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center's trauma center in Omaha for treatment.  WFAA-TV reports Joplin died from his injuries some time after 6pm Tuesday night.

Carson was in South Carolina at the time of the accident and he told ABC News he would immediately fly to Omaha to be with Joplin.

Joplin was a Texas Tech student from Midland, who was volunteering for the Carson campaign. He arrived in Iowa earlier this month to help the Carson campaign. His Facebook page also listed him working for the Texas Tech University Student Union.
