Texas Tech Takes to Road to Face Kansas State
After three straight weekends at home, the No. 19 Texas Tech baseball team returns to the road for Big 12 Conference Play as they travel to Manhattan, Kansas for a three-game series against Kansas State (17-18, 4-8) at Tointon Family Stadium.
The Red Raiders (23-14,7-5) are coming off a conference series sweep over Baylor and is currently tied with TCU for third place in the Big 12 Standings, a full game behind Oklahoma and Oklahoma State who are atop the standings with 8-4 records. The Red Raiders are off to its best start in Big 12 play since 1999 (8-4).
The Wildcats have won four of their last five and are coming off a series win at home against No. 3 TCU last weekend and a 10-inning walk-off win over Wichita State (5-4) on Tuesday. K-State has faced a nationally-ranked opponent in 10 of its last 15 games (3-7 record) and are 10-6 at home this season.
Tech leads K-State 31-25-1 in the all-time series and swept the Wildcats in Lubbock last season, but KSU has won the last seven game s in Manhattan.
Due to worries about severe weather, game one of the series has been moved up to 3 p.m. Friday.
Tech is expected to send hard-throwing sophomore right-hander Ryan Mosely (3-3, 2.84 ERA) to the mound in game one. Kansas State is expected to counter with RHP Colton Kalmus (1-2, 3.70 ).
Senior left-hander Cameron Smith (4-2, 2.77) is expected to start for the Red Raiders in game two while Kansas State has not announced a starter as of yet. Neither coach has named a starter for the series finale slated for 1 p.m. Sunday.
