Texas Tech Red Raider Tennis will be competing in the 2012 Big 12 Men’s Tennis Tournament this weekend in College Station, TX. The Red Raiders have a bye into the semi-finals of the tournament as the 2 seed as they finished behind Oklahoma in the Big 12 standings.  This is the Red Raiders fourth time in the Big 12 Tournament Semi-Finals.

Texas Tech is on a high after defeating then No. 15 Texas 4-3 at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock to secure their spot at second. Head Coach Tim Siegel said, “I think it was important to get the win over Texas for so many reasons, but mainly it gave us the bye and put us in the semifinals of the championship.” He added, “Right now I think we are playing with a certain level of confidence that I think we need in order to be successful at the Big 12 Championships.”

Tech will face the winner of the Baylor-Oklahoma State match on Saturday at 11 a.m. Texas Tech defeated both schools this season with a 5-1 victory over Oklahoma State and a 6-1 triumph over  Baylor which was a program first since the 1996 season.

Texas Tech currently has several players ranked nationally in singles and doubles competition along with the Big 12 Co-player of the Week Gonzalo Escobar.
