Tomorrow night the Texas Tech Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs open up the 2011-2012 season in a double-header at the United Spirit Arena.

The Lady Raiders host the New Mexico Lady Lobos at 6 p.m. as Kristy Curry begins her sixth season at the helm of the program. Texas Tech defeated New Mexico last season in their season opener 80-53 in Albuquerque and look to build on their breakout season last year and return to the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive season.

The Lady Raiders finished last season 22-11 and 8-8 in the Big 12 Conference before falling to St. John's in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Texas Tech Men officially tip off the Billy Gillispie era as they host Troy at 8:30 p.m. The new look Red Raider Basketball program features 10 players on the roster with three returning players from last season that include Robert Lewandowski, Javaris Willis, and Jay Crockett.

Texas Tech finished last season 13-19 and 5-11 in the Big 12 Conference finishing below expectations which led to the firing of then head coach Pat Knight. Gillispie previously coached at UTEP and Texas A&M before coaching two seasons at Kentucky before being fired in Lexington.
