Texas Tech Track and Field Set New Records in Austin

The Texas Tech track & field teams had a great start to the Texas Relays held in Austin, Texas, with a school record broken in the 4x800M relay and two qualifiers for the final of the 400M hurdles.

Jamele Mason and Bryce Brown continued their strong times in the 400M hurdles. Mason ran a 49.97 to win his heat and was the fastest qualifier for Saturday’s final at 12:30 p.m. Brown was in a loaded heat with USC’s All-American Reggie Wyatt and defending NCAA champion in the event Washington State’s Jeshua Anderson. Brown ran a 50.26 to place second in his heat. He was the third-fastest qualifier. Shane Brathwaite ran a 52.44 to place 12th in the preliminaries and Brandon Tucker crossed the line in 52.87 for 14th.

The women’s 4x800M relay of Devin Bailey, Shannon Jackson, Caroline Jepleting and Kearci Jobe ran an 8:41.61 to set a new school record. The group placed second behind LSU. The 8:41.61 broke the previous school record of 8:52.46.

Tech will start competing tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. with the 100M hurdles and 110M hurdles.
