The Texas Tech Red Raiders (5-1, 2-1) righted the ship in a 49-14 domination of the #5 West Virginia Mountaineers (5-1, 2-1) Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Quarterback Seth Doege took the game into his own hands from the get-go. After the opening kickoff, Doege led the Red Raiders on 6 play, 75 yard drive capped off by a 39 yard pass to Jace Amaro. The crucial play of the drive was a Seth Doege 23 yard run on a 3rd Down and 1. On the following drive, West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen rolled the dice and went for it on a 4th and 4 at the Texas Tech 31 yard line. Geno Smith's pass went incomplete and the Red Raiders had the ball again.

Seth Doege then took the Red Raiders 69 yards down the field for another touchdown. The scoring play was a 19 yard pass to Eric Ward.

The Texas Tech defense can't be overlooked either. They held West Virginia to 9/21 on 3rd Down conversions and 2/7 on 4th Down conversions. West Virginia's first half possessions went like this: turnover on downs, touchdown, punt, turnover on downs, punt, punt, end of half.

The pressure by the Texas Tech defensive line was relentless against Mountaineer quarterback Geno Smith all game. Smith was also uncomfortable with having to throw in the West Texas wind. Mountaineer head coach Dana Holgorsen mentioned the wind being a factor during his halftime interview with ESPN/ABC and it was also told to the FAN's Allen Corbin by a West Virginia official during halftime. Smith finished 29/55 passing for 275 yards with 1 touchdown and no interceptions.

Meanwhile, Seth Doege had his best performance as a Texas Tech quarterback going 32/42 passing for 504 yards with 6 touchdowns and 1 interception. Doege tied his career high for touchdowns and set a career high for passing yards.

Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville said he couldn't be any prouder of his team after the game. He also received a standing ovation from friends and family before his postgame press conference.

The Red Raiders next week are on the road at TCU with the kickoff time still To Be Announced.
