The Texas Tech volleyball team claimed two of the Big 12 Conference weekly awards Tuesday morning as sophomore Rachel Brummitt earned Defensive Player of the Week honors while freshman Emily Ruetter was named the Rookie of the Week.

The selections mark the first time in school history that two Red Raiders have been honored in the same week and just the third time multiple athletes have been recognized with a weekly award in the same season.

It was the second consecutive week Brummitt earned a weekly conference award, making her the first Texas Tech player to do so.  She snapped the Tech single-match record for most digs in a three-set match against San Jose State as she recorded 27 to break a 21-year-old record of 24 that was set by Sheila Solomon against Houston on Nov. 16, 1990.

Ruetter from the setter position dished out 111 assists to go along with 21 digs and seven blocks, moving her to sixth on the Big 12 charts in assists per set.

The 8-0 Red Raiders open a seven-match road trip this weekend when they travel to Missoula, Mont. for the Best Western Grant Creek Inn Invitational. Texas Tech will face Towson, Furman, and host Montana during the two-day tournament that begins Friday.
