Texas Tech vs. Stephen F. Austin – Game Preview
Saturday, September 7th
Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock
Kickoff: 6 pm CST, FSN
The Red Raiders won their season opener last Friday night defeating the SMU Mustangs 41-23 in Dallas for Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury in his debut in Lubbock. Freshman Quarterback Baker Mayfield earning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week Honors for his 413 yards and five touchdown performance. SFA fell to Weber State last Saturday 50-40.
Why Texas Tech will win the game…
The Red Raiders should win this game on talent alone on the field. Tech has the offensive firepower and more more importantly the defensive weapons to stop the Lumberjacks to win this game easily. Mayfield will have the benefit of Tight End Jace Amaro from the start of the game to get on a fast start in this game against a defense which gave up 50 points to Weber State this past week. The Red Raiders should establish a ground game against a Lumberjack Defense which gave up 315 yards rushing in Week 1.
Why Stephen F. Austin will win the game…
Even with the wealth of talent on the Red Raider sideline, Tech is not immune to what happened in Week 1 with eight FCS teams beating their FBS counterparts. Texas Tech looked vulnerable with their bend, but don’t break defense giving up over 300 yards passing and allowing Garrett Gilbert to escape on designed running plays. SFA will throw the ball over 50 times in this game and attack the new Red Raider secondary.
What will happen…
The Red Raiders will get their best shot from SFA and struggle in the early portions of the game, but talent will prevail in this game and the Red Raiders will cruise to a substantial margin of victory against the Lumberjacks.
