Texas Tech Will Face Coastal Carolina In Win Or Go Home Match up
Texas Tech is now the final nationally seeded participant left in the College World Series after dispatching Florida on Tuesday night. TCU baseball won again on Tuesday night beating the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 6-1.
The Horned Frog win allows them to rest until Friday when they play the winner of Texas Tech and Coastal Carolina, which will be played at 7 pm on Thursday.
On the other side of the bracket Arizona and the UCSB Gauchos will face off tonight with the winner playing Oklahoma State on Friday afternoon.
Much had been said about the ACC and the SEC but it's the Big 12 that now has 3 teams left out of the final 6. That's 50 percent, more commonly known as half. As in, the glass is half full.
Oklahoma State has yet to allow a run in Omaha. Luken Baker is hitting homeruns. Texas Tech has Eric Gutierrez with a hot bat.
The Big 12 is dangerous and it's time to let the Big 12 flags fly.
A Big 12 Championship would be great for the conference.
It's time for Big 12 Baseball to rise again. Like a phoenix from it's ashes.
The simplest reason is because the more respect you conference gets, the tournament teams you get.
But, we cannot get ahead of ourselves. The Chanticleers, a proud and fierce rooster, came from the NC State Regional beating both St Mary's and NC State to move on. They then beat LSU in 2 straight in Baton Rouge to make it to Omaha. They are 48-16 and play in the Big South Conference. This is the Chanticleers first trip to Omaha.
Coastal Carolina is led by Senior OF Connor Owings who is batting .368 with 16 homeruns and Senior 3rd baseman Zach Remillard who is batting .348 with 19 jimmy jacks.
The Chanticleers used 2 of their main starters in the ball game against TCU, Bobby Holmes threw 30 pitches in relief. The closer, Mike Morrison also threw 30 pitches in relief during the loss to TCU.
My guess is the Chanticleers employ the Johnny All Staff approach and start someone who has already pitched in Omaha.
The Red Raiders will likely stick with the hot arm of freshman Erikson Lanning, although Ryan Mosley and Ty Damron are fresh as well.
Ryan Moseley has Omaha experience, throwing 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball against Ole Miss as a freshman in 2014.
The Red Raider bullpen, besides Hayden Howard, should all be available after 2 deep starts provided by Stephen Gingery and Davis Martin.
The lineup will probably stay the same as well with Orlando Garcia thriving in the 2 hole and Hayden Howard providing big hits out of the 7 hole.
Wreck 'em Tech. Go Big 12. Water the Tree.
