Texas Tech’s Janine Beckie Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

Texas Tech freshman Janine Beckie was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday as the Red Raiders prepare for postseason play.

The recognition comes just a day after Beckie was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Year. She also joins a group of four Red Raiders named to the postseason All-Big 12 First Team.

It was Beckie’s second Player of the Week honor after being named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week back on Sept. 18.

The freshman found the back of the net twice in Texas Tech's 2-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma State Friday night to conclude the regular season with a school record 14 victories.

Beckie ended the season as Tech’s leading scorer with 11 goals, four of which were game-winners.

The Red Raiders open play at the Big 12 Championships Wednesday as the No. 3 seed with a 2 p.m. match against No. 6 seed Kansas at the Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. The match can be seen live on the Big 12 Digital Network.
