The Houston Astros Finally get a Win Against the Division Leading Oakland Athletics

The Houston Astros defeated the Oakland Athletics for the first time in eleven tries last night, but they would need a little help from a late inning rally to do so.  Rookie Jarred Cosart(Pictured on the Left) also had another strong outing in his second start of the season.  He was able to go seven innings while giving up just one run on seven hits in the 5-4 win although he did not get the win.  That went to reliever Josh Fields who came in and shut down the A’s offense in the top of the ninth allowing Johnathan Villar to have his first clutch moment of his career.

Astros shortstop Villar had his best game in the majors last night as he led the offense in the win.  Villar, who had three hits in the contest including two double, also helped the Astros turn four double plays.  If that wasn’t enough, he scored the winning run on a headfirst slide after reaching home all the way from second base on a throwing error by A’s catcher Derek Norris, who blocked a pitch in the dirt and then tried to throw out a stumbling Jose Altuve caught between first and second base. The throw went into right field allowing Houston the victory.

It may not have been the prettiest win but with it, the Astros have something to build on.  They will get that chance today as they play game three of their midweek series against the A’s.  First pitch is set for 1:10 pm from Minute Maid Park in Houston.
