The Houston Astros Lose 4-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks

The Houston Astros struggled offensively yesterday as they spoiled what was Brad Peacocks best outing of the season.  Both starting pitchers (Bronson Arroyo for Arizona) dueled for most of the game, but bullpen mistakes and fielding miscues doomed the Astros, as they fell to Arizona by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon.

Peacock went six strong innings for Houston as he only allowed one run on three hits while striking out four but was awarded a no decision thanks to the bullpen.  Relievers Josh Fields and Kyle Farnsworth came in and allowed the three runs that gave the D-backs a lead they would not give up.  In just two innings of work they combined to give up three runs, two of them earned, on four hits while striking out just one.  The Astros defense also struggled as they had two errors in the game that eventually proved to be costly.  “Fields came in and obviously, defensively, we didn’t help ourselves,” Houston manager Bo Porter said.  “I felt like he made quality pitches, and we’re able to make a few of those defensive plays, obviously he fares better and we fare better.”

Hitting wise, rookie Jon Singleton had another solid game as he went 3 for 4 with two doubles.  He was Houston’s lone run that they scored in the contest.  But other than him only three Astro batters were able to get hits as they were a combined to go 4-27 from the plate.

Houston will continue their four game mid-week series with the D-backs today as the series shifts to Houston now.  On the year Bo Porter’s ball club now sits at 29-37 which is 10.5 games back of the Oakland A’s for the division lead.  First pitch for tonight’s game is set for 7:10pm with the pregame starting at 6:45pm.  You can catch all the action right here on Sports Radio 1340 the FAN.
