The Houston Astros Takes Care of the Minnesota Twins 14-5 on Sunday

The Houston Astros had just one starter that did not earn a hit in their 14-5 drumming of the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.  Chris Carter blasted his first career grand slam in the seventh inning to break the game open, and rookie Jon Singleton (pictured on the right) joined the fun by blasting his first grand slam on his second career homer in the ninth to send the soaring Astros past the Twins.

“Any time you have several guys in your lineup who can change the game with one swing, it puts more strain on the opposing pitchers because they feel like, ‘I can’t make a mistake here,'” Astros manager Bo Porter said.  “That can drain on a staff.”

The Astros have won 11 of their last 15 games and are 17-10 since May 11, with a resurgent offense leading the turnaround.  Houston is hitting .263 as a team in its last 27 games after hitting .220 in the first 37 games.  They will start a four game mid-week series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with the first two games being in Arizona and the final two being back in Houston.  First pitch for tonight’s game is set for 8:40pm with the pregame starting at 8:15pm and you can catch all the action right here on Sports Radio 1340 the FAN.
