The Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics faced off last night the American League Wild Card Game for a chance to take on the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS.  Oakland would have leads of 2-1 (after two innings), 7-3 (after six), 7-6 (after eight) and 8-7 (going into the bottom of the 12th), but a Salvador Perez’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th sent the A's home early once again.

Quite a start to October baseball, even if this one appeared to be over with plenty of time to spare in September.  But in a back-and-forth epic that lasted 4 hours, 45 minutes, the A's lost their seventh straight winner-take-all playoff game since 2000.  "This will go down as the craziest game I've ever played," said Eric Hosmer, who sparked the final Royals rally with a one-out triple.  "This team showed a lot of character. No one believed in us before the game.  No one believed in us before the season."

Kansas City will now take on the Los Angeles Angels in the ALDS as the long-suffering Royals hadn't played in the postseason since beating St. Louis in the 1985 World Series.
