The NFL playoffs in recent history has been called into question. Are the best teams really represented? Teams with losing records can somehow win a division and make the playoffs above a team with a better record in another division.

The NFL tried to remedy this problem originally by adding Wild Cards. That doesn't do anything for the losing record teams making the playoffs, like the 2014 Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers were 7-8-1 and hosted a playoff game that they won against the 11-5 Arizona Cardinals. In a perfect world, the Cardinals would have hosted the game since they had a better record. But this isn't a perfect world, especially in the NFL. And, for that, all Cowboys fans can dream of playing a HOME playoff game.

The NFC East is a dumpster fire and with three teams at 5-7 and the Cowboys at 4-8 and a game out of first place. The Cowboys, theoretically, only need two more wins to be in the playoffs with a home game. Insane? Follow along.

If the Cowboys beat the Redskins again and win just one other game, it would make them 6-10 with a 4-2 division record.

If the Giants, Redskins and Eagles all go 1-3 over the next four weeks, everyone would be in a 4-way tie for the division and the best divisional record possible would be 3-3.

The tie-breaker in the NFL is best record in the division.

So, with a lot of help and a little Christmas miracle, the Cowboys could win the division and still get a pretty good draft pick at 6-10. It's the best of both worlds.

The Cowboys would join the 2014 Panthers and 2010 Seahawks as playoff contenders with losing records.

If the Cowboys do make the playoffs at 6-10, it would take winning the Super Bowl to get them to .500.
