Standout Texas Tech Red Raider Barrett Barnes has been drafted 45th overall in the 2012 MLB draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Barnes was drafted in  the supplemental first round. He became the just the second player in school history to go in the first round.

Barnes, who was a bright spot for Texas Tech all season long, led the Red Raiders in numerous statistical categories. Barnes finished with a batting average of .325, 17 doubles, six triples, nine home runs and 49 RBI with 19-of-20 stolen bases. Barnes is likely walking into a struggling Pittsburgh organization who has been historically bad in recent history. This season however Pitt sits at .500 on the season. Hopefully Barnes can find his way on to the field and contribute in a meaningful way.
