I knew I made a mistake as I waited in line, my car halfway out on the access road of the loop, to get some last minute items into the mail before the holidays.

The post office next to Midas on the South Loop is small, and the parking lot is even smaller, making it dangerous to enter and cumbersome to park.

While we may be past the postal services so-called "busiest day of the year" (December 15), this post office was still wall-to-wall packed with people, even at 2:30 in the afternoon on a work day.

If you're like me and wait until the last minute to get your mailing done, fear not -- you still have a few days to get priority packages out and reach relatives by Christmas Day.

USPS recommends mailing no later than this Saturday (Dec. 20) to guarantee delivery before then.
