The Texas Rangers didn’t quite get their season off to the start they wanted as they fell in the opener 14-10 at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies.  Texas sent reliever Tanner Scheppers to the mound for his first career start, but his excitement wouldn’t last long as he gave up six runs in the second inning.  “A lot of good things happened out there, we just didn’t pitch as well as we would like to,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “Every time we put up runs, they either matched it or put up more runs to keep us behind. There are definitely some things we need to correct, but it’s only one game. We’ll get better as we go along.”

Texas was still able to keep the game close against Philadelphia starter Cliff LeeJosh Wilson hit a three-run double in the second that helped make it 6-4.  Alex Rios then put the Rangers ahead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third.  But the Phillies offense would prove to be too much for Ron Washington’s team.  The Rangers will continue their series with the Phillies both today and on Wednesday.
