The two-time AL champion Texas Rangers are the big winners in the Yu Darvish sweepstakes. The Rangers have won the rights from Darvish's Japanese League team. The Rangers ponied up a record $51.7 million posting fee. Basically the Rangers payed $52 million just to talk to Darvish,  now they must negotiate a contract with the 6-foor-5 pitcher who has been clocked with about a 98 mph fastball.

If Darvish and the Rangers cannot work out a contract, Darvish will return to the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters for another season and the Rangers will not have to pay the record posting fee. With the loss of CJ Wilson, the Rangers need to add depth in the starting rotation. Neftali Feliz is apparently moving from closer, into the starting rotation, but Feliz is untested as a starter in the majors, and the Rangers management understands that their starting pitching is one of their biggest deficiencies coming into the season.

If the Rangers can sign Darvish, all signs indicate that it would be a good move for the Rangers. You can check out some Yu Darvish highlights below.
