The Texas Rangers Lose 4-2 to the Oakland Athletics, Now Tied Atop the AL West

The Texas Rangers are now tied atop the American League West with the Oakland Athletics after they lost 4-2 on Monday.  Derek Holland had one of his worst starts of the year as he called it a “terrible” performance, and the offense was basically a no show as they went 0-9 with runners in scoring position.

Now Oakland’s starter Dan Straily did not have a stellar start either as he only went five innings giving up two runs on three hits, but both teams bullpens were very impressive.  On the Ranger end, Nick Tepesch came in and kept Texas in the game as he allowed no runs in his three plus innings of work.  Oakland on the other hand used four different pitcher in relief, but all were able to get the same result as they blanked the Rangers for the final four innings.

The Rangers offense basically took the day off yesterday.  Alex Rios and Adrian Beltre were the only Texas players to get more than one hit in the game, but neither was able to score.  The lone spark came off of David Murphy’s (Pictured on the Left) bat in the fifth when he belted a two-run home run to tie the game.  The Rangers would get another opportunity to score as they had the bases loaded in the sixth with one out, but were unable to capitalize off of the A’s reliever Dan Otero.

With the loss the Rangers will need to bounce back as they still have two more games in Oakland while on this road trip.  The offense will have to show up as the A’s will send their ace Bartolo Calon to the mound opposite the Texas starter Martin Perez.  First pitch is set for 9:05 pm from O.co Coliseum in Oakland and can be seen on FOX Sports SW.
