The Texas Rangers sent rookie Nick Martinez to the mound on Tuesday night as they faced off against their in-state rival in the Houston Astros in game two of their mid-week series.  Martinez (pictured on the right) would have one of his better outings of the year on his way to earning the 2-1 win.  He finished the game going 6 2/3 shutout innings while holding Houston to just five hits and striking out five batters as well.

"I thought this could have been his best performance in the fact that I liked how he handled himself on the mound," interim manager Tim Bogar said.  "Early in the season, you could see him let the game speed up on him and tonight he didn't allow that to happen.  He had a couple of tough situations that he got out of tonight and it just shows his maturity."

Houston's starter Brett Oberholtzer was pulled after giving up consecutive one-out singles in the fifth, marking the second time in three starts he lasted just 4 1/3 innings.  He would earn the loss on Tuesday as he now sits at 5-13 on the season.

These teams will play for the final time this season as they wrap up their mid-week series.  First pitch for that game is set for 7:05pm from Globe Life Park in Arlington with the pregame starting at 6:45pm.  You can hear all the action of this game right here on Sports Radio 1340 the FAN.
