Argo

Director and star Ben Affleck is already racking up high praise for ‘Argo,’ his new ‘70s-set political thriller based on a true story. The film re-enacts the CIA’s covert mission to rescue six U.S. diplomats following the Iran hostage crisis. The mission involves having the diplomats and CIA agents pose as Hollywood filmmakers making a sci-fi flick. ‘Argo’ hits theaters on Friday.

Seven Psychopaths

One of our recent Crushes of the Day, Olga Kurylenko, stars in this subversive gangster flick alongside Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson and Tom Waits. ‘In Bruges’ director Mark McDonagh is behind this darkly comic shoot-em-up that looks like an excuse to have some of our favorite character actors chew some scenery for 90 minutes. ‘Seven Psychopaths’ opens wide Friday.

Chris Ware’s ‘Building Stories’

Eisner Award winning comic book artist and cartoonist Chris Ware releases his latest graphic novel, ‘Building Stories,’ on Wednesday. His latest colorful, deep and meticulous examination of human life centers on the inhabitants of a Chicago apartment house, including an arguing couple and a spinster landlady.

‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Season 8 Premiere

We have no idea what the hell is going on this season on ‘Sunny,' but we’re sure it’ll be funny. The show premieres Thursday at 10 p.m. on FX. Here’s a promo that promises some interesting cast shake-ups.

‘Arrow’ Series Premiere

DC Comics hero Green Arrow jumps to the small screen in The CW’s latest comic book adaptation. Stephen Amil stars as Oliver Queen, a Bruce Wayne-esque rich boy who dons a mask and uses a bow and arrow to fight crime in the big city. Katie Cassidy, Emily Bett Rickards and Willa Holland are among the hot women who enter his life, either as friends or foes. ‘Arrow’ premieres Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Smashed

This one looks like a downer, but a promising downer with a great cast. ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Aaron Paul and one of our favorite crushes, Elizabeth Winstead, star in this well-received indie about what happens when one half of a drunk couple decides to go sober. ‘Smashed’ opens in limited release this Friday.

Here Comes the Boom

Someone thought it was a good idea to build a big screen MMA comedy around Kevin James. But hey, at least Salma Hayek and Henry Winkler are co-starring. And I’m sure we’ll get to see James knocked out a few times, which could be worth the price of a ticket. ‘Here Comes the Boom’ opens Friday.

'Prometheus' on Blu-ray

Ridley Scott’s mind-bending trip into high-concept sci-fi, ‘Prometheus,’ hit digital download a few weeks ago, but now you can see it in crisp HD starting this Tuesday. Get ready to be amazed by the ambition and elegant visuals on display (and ultimately disappointed by the lackluster story).

Sinister

This horror flick starring Ethan Hawke goes into wide release on Friday. This one looks pretty standard, but ‘Sinister’ also looks like it delivers enough scares for a fun midnight screening.
