With the No. 12 overall pick, the Miami Marlins chose 1B Josh Naylor of Mississauga, Ontario Canada’s St. Joan of Arc HS.

Three picks later, the Milwaukee Brewers selected OF Trent Clark from Fort Worth’s Richland Hills  High School.

In the early second round the Cincinnati Reds chose RHP Tony Santillan from Arlington Seguin HS.

Tech is the only program in the nation to have two signees selected in the first 15 picks of the draft this year. This also marks the first time in program history the Red Raiders  have had multiple signees selected in the first round of the draft.

The last Red Raider signee to be drafted in the first round  was Clay Bucholz who was a supplemental first round pick, No. 42 overall, by the Boston Red Sox in 2005.

Naylor’s burgeoning power from the left side of the dish made him the top 1B prospect in North America, as touted by Perfect Game USA recruiting service and the No. 31 prospect overall.

No other Canadian-born position player has been selected as early as Naylor. Brett Lawrie was the No. 16 pick overall by the Brewers in 2008 to set the previous standard.

Clark was the 12th-rated prospect and third-highest high-school outfielder by MLB.com, and the second best high-school prospect from Texas by Perfect Game USA.

Clark led Team USA that won the gold medal in the 2014 Pan American Games hitting .538 with three home runs and 20 RBI while stealing five bases.

Santillan was the 63rd–rated player by MLB.com and nnth best right-handed pitcher in the country. Rounds 3-10 of the draft will commence at noon Tuesday. You can follow the draft live online at MLB.com.
