Accoring to ESPN.com and Adam Schefter, Tony Romo will retire from the NFL and start a career in broadcasting.

Romo has received interest from CBS, Fox and NBC, and can choose to be a color commentator where he wants. The CBS job would likely pair him with Jim Nantz and the Fox job would see Romo taking over for John Lynch who got a job as the GM of the San Francisco 49er's, according to Clay Travis on his radio show that you can listen to every morning on 1340 the Fan.

The decision from Romo comes on the heels of Jerry Jones announcing yesterday that teams could work Tony Romo out.

The bottom line for Tony Romo is that retiring was best for his health and well being.

After being relatively healthy for the first chunk of his career Romo played just 5 games in his final 2 seasons.

Romo opened his career in Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2004 before breaking into the starting role in 2006. In his first full season as the starter Romo had arguably his best season throwing for 4,211 yards and 36 touchdowns and leading the Cowboys to a 13-3 record.

Romo ends his career at the top of the statistical record books in Dallas in yards, touchdowns and game winning drives. He also owns the best interception percentage in Cowboys history for guys who played more than a season. His Career record of 78-49, a 61 percent winning percentage, is better than Troy Aikman.

Romo also holds team records for most 300-yard passing games (46), multiple touchdown pass games (79) and consecutive games with a touchdown pass (38). In 2012, he threw for a club-record 4,903 yards and on Oct. 6, 2013, against the Broncos, he threw for a franchise record 506 yards. He owns the NFL record with a touchdown pass in 41 straight road games.

Tony Romo was a very good quarterback. He also made a lot of money.

Unfortunately in 2013 his back began to give out. He had one more solid run in 2014 going 12-4 missing the NFC title game by one catch, or no catch I guess. In 2015, Romo broke his collar bone twice with the Cowboys only going 1-11 without him.

In his first appearence in the 2016 season Romo broke his back.

In his absence rookie Dak Prescott led the Cowboys to a 13-3 record.

Romo got one drive in the 2016 regular season, throwing a touchdown against the Eagles in Philly.

A fitting final play for Romo's career.

Respect to the legend.

UPDATE:

Romo will be announced as CBS's lead color analyst paired with Jim Nantz on the main broadcast team. CBS is scheduled to call the Dallas Cowboys thanksgiving game and the Super Bowl this season.
