University Medical Center has been recognized as a Magnet hospital, becoming the first Magnet hospital in West Texas.

Magnet recognition is earned after a 5-year review process centered on clinical excellence. It's proof of exceptional patient care and recognizes the best places for nurses and doctors to work.

UMC Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Tammy Williams released a statement in response to the recognition:

"We are very proud of our nursing staff and our inter-professional teams for the level of care they provide to Lubbock and the West Texas community... Our nursing staff is committed to excellence in every aspect of patient care. We are truly a Magnet organization, providing the highest quality of care for our patients and families every day."

UMC joins 41 other hospitals in Texas and 471 hospitals worldwide that have earned the Magnet recognition.
