New England Patriots and former Texas Tech standout receiver Wes Welker announced on Tuesday that he has signed a 1-year, $9.5 million contract offer to be the Patriots franchise player.

Welker made the announcement on Twitter saying,

I signed my tender today. I love the game and I love my teammates! Hopefully doing the right thing gets the right results. #leapoffaith

Welker had more receptions in the 2011 NFL season than anyone else, but received some blame for the Patriots loss in Super Bowl 46 where he dropped a pass late in the game that could have iced the game over the New York Giants. The Giants won 21-17 this past February in Indianapolis.

Welker is a four-time selection to the Pro Bowl and hauled in 122 receptions for 1,569 yards and 9 touchdowns. He was undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2004 and has played for the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins.
