Houston-based Stage Stores announced Thursday (August 20) that it will close 90 of its 850 locations. Should Lubbock shoppers expect the two Stage Stores-owned Bealls stores to shutter?

According to store managers at the two Bealls locations in Lubbock, neither store should be affected by Stage Stores' announcement.

Angela Rangel, the manager at the Bealls inside the South Plains Mall, told KFYO News that per an email she received, both locations will continue to operate.

The other Bealls store is located in the Caprock Center, where manager Victoria echoed Rangel's statement.

KFYO attempted to contact Jeff Bailey, the regional manager for Bealls, for further information, but were unable to reach him.

The announcement of the store closures follows news that second quarter earnings for the company fell short.

“We were challenged by the impact of a weaker peso and economic softness in parts of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico," said Stage Stores president and CEO Michael Glazer [quote via Chron].
