Will the Miami Heat Repeat as NBA Champs? — Sports Survey of the Day

Last night, the NBA kicked off its 2012-13 season with three games. In the marquee matchup, the defending-champion Miami Heat defeated the Boston Celtics 120-107, in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference finals. Unfortunately for Boston (and the rest of the NBA, really), it looks like the Heat have only gotten better.

But can they do it again?

The Heat’s poaching perhaps the best outside shooter of all time, Ray Allen, from their rival Celtics was one of the bigger moves of this past off-season. Boston’s Kevin Garnett still seems peeved about his former teammate’s switch, at one point ignoring Allen’s greeting last night. It seems like the bad blood between these two teams is only going to get worse.

But keep in mind that it’s not just the Heat who have improved. Out West, the Lakers added Dwight Howard and Steve Nash. Back East, the 76ers now have Andrew Bynum patrolling the paint. Winning one championship is hard enough, and teams rarely repeat. Whether the Heat can do it is one of the biggest questions of this young season.
