If you watched the Texas Tech and West Virginia game on Saturday, you might of noticed a couple of things. Zach Smith was not playing for the Red Raiders, and there was a patch of his name on the red jerseys that Texas Tech wore.

Smith has not played the past two conference games due to a foot injury, and there was not a lot of clarity as to how serious it was. However, all was explained during Chris Beard's post-game press conference after the team's big win against West Virginia.

"It's not good, it's tough to talk about," Coach Beard started out by saying as he tried to hold back his emotions. "Zach is out, he broke a bone in his foot."

Beard also told the media that it looked like we wouldn't be seeing Smith anytime soon. "It's going to be a deal where he will be out for the foreseeable future," he said. Beard would then close with saying he would do anything for Smith: "I'd give him my foot tomorrow if I could, but I can't do that."

This is devastating news for Zach Smith, as well as the Texas Tech men's basketball team. Smith is a senior this year and was going to be a huge factor in the team's season with his interior defense and uncanny athletic ability.

Our thoughts are with Zach and we hope to see him back on the court soon.
