Battle Leads Lady Raiders in Big 12 Conference Tournament
Texas Tech looks to make it three-straight wins this season against West Virginia when the two teams open the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship at 8:30 p.m. Friday at American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Senior Amber Battle, who was named First Team All-Big 12 Wednesday, will lead the Lady Raiders into the tournament.
Tech (15-15) will be the 10th seed while West Virginia (17-13) will be the No. 7 seed in the tournament. The two will follow the opening game at 6 p.m. between No. 8 Kansas State and No. 9 Kansas. Both games will be broadcast on FOX College Sports.
The Lady Raiders took both meetings against the Mountaineers this season, winning 55-45 in Morgantown on Jan. 14 and 73-57 in Lubbock on Jan. 28.
Battle led Tech with 20 points in the win on the road, and scored a career high 33 points in the win Lubbock.
This will be the first meeting between the two squads in the Big 12 Championship.
Tech is 15-16 all-time in the championship and 4-4 in the opening round. The Lady Raiders have won the postseason tournament twice -- 1998 and 1999. Tech's last opening round win came in 2012 (81-58 vs. Texas).
