Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte is expected to play Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys after missing Sunday’s win over the St. Louis Rams due to a sprained right ankle.

The Pro Bowl back practiced Wednesday for the first time since suffering the injury in the Week 2 loss to Green Bay.

Forte responded, ''Uh huh, yeah,'' when asked if he expects to play against the Cowboys.

Head coach Lovie Smith wasn’t as optimistic that Forte would be back in the mix.

''I would hold off on ...'' Smith said. ''He's got a long ways to go, still. But he is making progress, and hopefully we can get him out there.”

Even if Forte doesn’t play Monday against Dallas it’s a good sign for Chicago fans that he’s at least back and practicing.
