The Braden Joplin Scholarship honors the life of Braden Joplin, who was killed last year in Iowa while campaigning for Dr. Ben Carson. The inaugural Joplin Scholarship was presented to Emily Jenkins.

Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert L. Duncan, Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center President Dr. Tedd L. Mitchell were in attendance for the presentation.

Earlier this year, Dr. Carson was named theĀ 17th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development by President Donald J. Trump.
