NBA Lockout Is Over! Owners and Players Finally Reach a Compromise
After a 149-day lockout, NBA owners and players agreed to a tentative new collective bargaining agreement that will salvage a 66-game season. Both sides appear to have compromised in order to avoid canceling the season for the first time in NBA history.
Teams will begin camps and free agency will resume on December 9, with the first tipoffs on Christmas.
“Despite some bumps this evening,” Commissioner David Stern said early Saturday morning, “the greater good required us to knock ourselves out and come to this tentative understanding.”
What should fans expect? Some say slowness and sloppiness from the players, but ultimately the end result is right, and people will embrace the game they have so badly missed over the past months. Now all the questions surround whether the Mavericks can repeat, and who can challenge them for the crown.
