The Pittsburgh Steelers and linebacker Lawrence Timmons agreed upon a new six-year contact Tuesday, making him the team’s second linebacker to receive an extension this month.

The deal will pay Timmons $50 million through 2016, and he joins teammate LaMarr Woodley as linebackers who have agreed on new deals with the team this month alone, as he signed a new six year deal as well back on August 5th.

The 26-year-old Woodley and the 25-year-old Timmons are considered the young core of the Steelers linebacker group that includes James Harrison (33-years-old), Larry Foote (31-years-old) and James Farrior (36-years-old).

Timmons was selected with the 15th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, and had 95 tackles and three sacks last season.
